We want OperatorCompliance to be usable by everyone, including transport staff and drivers who rely on assistive technology or use a phone in a cab.
- We work towards WCAG 2.2 level AA for the public website and the application: keyboard navigation, visible focus, sufficient colour contrast, text that scales, labelled form fields, and no information conveyed by colour alone (status labels always carry text). We have not yet had an independent accessibility audit, so we do not claim full conformance.
- Driver-facing pages (the driver app, the consent form and report signing) are mobile-first and translated into Polish, Romanian, Lithuanian and Bulgarian as well as English. The driver app's sign-in pages have a language choice at the top.
- In the driver app, the photo buttons can be reached with a keyboard or switch control, every photo can be taken with the camera or chosen from the phone's gallery, the OK / Defect / N/A and severity buttons tell screen readers which one is selected, and progress bars expose their progress to screen readers.
- Wherever we ask for a drawn signature (the consent form, report signing and the walkaround check), typing your name is offered as an equal alternative, because a drawing box cannot be used with a keyboard or screen reader.
- An automated check in our test suite looks at the driver screens for fields without labels, buttons without names, file inputs hidden from the keyboard, invalid selected-state values, progress bars without values and broken references. It catches common mistakes but not everything, and we have not yet tested these screens by hand with a screen reader. If something gets in your way, tell us and we will fix it.
Known limitations:
- PDFs we generate are text-based but not yet tagged for headings and tables, so a screen reader reads them as plain text.
- Parts of the office application are still in English only.
- Stripe checkout is outside our control.
- Complex tables in the application may require horizontal scrolling on very small screens.
If you have difficulty using any part of the Service, email hello@operatorcompliance.co.uk and we will help you complete the task another way and fix the barrier where we can.
